It all started in 1993, or was it 1693?

So,  for all the non-believers out there who have never heard of hocus pocus, here goes a quick little summary of the first movie which came out 29 years ago in 1993. 

This story starts with the Sanderson sisters in 1693 when they lured a little girl named Emily into the enchanted woods and absorbed her soul in order to become young again. Despite Emily’s brother Thackery’s best intentions, he wasn’t able to recue her, and got turned into a cat during his atempt.

Thus the whole town of Salem turned against the three sisters, consequently, they were sentenced to hang… It’s imporant to note that not before they  started chanting, to cast a powerfull spell.

The Spell:

“On All Hallow’s Eve, when the moon is round, a virgin will summon us from under the ground.We shall be back!And the lives of all children of Salem shall be mine! -Winifred Sanderson. October 31st, 1693.”

Then the movie quickly jumps to 1993, which was current time when the film was made, following the lives of 3 important characters; 

First, we have Max, the virgin who lit the candle bringing the three witches back to life.

Second, there’s Allison, the girl Max was trying to impress when he lit the candle.

And third is Dani, Max’s little sister and the child whose soul the Sandersons were most after.

By the end of the movie, the sisters fail to absorb a child’s soul before the sunrise which was their literal “deadline”, thus turned into stone until next time a virgin lits the candle on a halloween night…

Perfect ending for a perfect beggining to It’s just a bunch of Hocus Pocus 2.
